Daan Komen has been a lawyer since 2014 and was one of the founders of Caland Advocaten. Coming as he does from a fisherman’s family, he became familiar with shipping at a young age. He charts and follows his own course.
Daan is a litigation specialist, whose practice encompasses mostly dry and wet shipping matters. He frequently acts for shipowners, terminal operators, carriers, freight forwarders, cargo interests and their insurers. His clients appreciate him for his thorough approach and creative solutions.
He regularly teaches courses in his area of practice and contributes as an arbitrator to the International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot Competition.

Rechtsgebiedenregister
Daan staat in het rechtsgebiedenregister van de Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten met de volgende hoofd- (en sub) rechtsgebieden geregistreerd: Transport- en handelsrecht. Op grond van deze registratie is hij verplicht elk kalenderjaar volgens de normen van de Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten tien opleidingspunten te behalen op ieder geregistreerd hoofdrechtsgebied.
